The Thirteenth Apostle
The series of three linocuts: The Thirteenth Apostle, The Sixth House, and The Thirteenth Christmas was created by the author in 2003. In each of the three images, the author infused their own meaning, printed, and destroyed the prototypes. The first linocut of the three is The Thirteenth Apostle.
Author's Concept.
In the linocut "The Thirteenth Apostle," the author imbued the meaning of finding individual purpose in life, whatever it may mean for the owner and whatever consequences it may entail. According to the author's intention, the linocut "The Thirteenth Apostle" will bring to the owner's life the true, individual meaning of their existence, determined from above. Perhaps it's better for some not to know it, while for others, it's necessary. Such was the author's intent. All three prototypes from which the series was printed have been destroyed.
History of Linocuts.
Over 20 years, a small number of linocuts "The Thirteenth Apostle" have been gifted: to worthy individuals, some friends of the author, and some outsiders with great discretion. Fifteen copies remain, each signed with its number on the backside in thin pencil. The linocuts "The Thirteenth Apostle" were printed in 2003 as part of a series with two others: "The Thirteenth Christmas" (of which there are 13 remaining) and "The Sixth House" (of which there are 14 remaining).
Limited Edition.
The softness of linoleum as a printing material is a drawback in linocut technique: even with slight pressure from a manual printing press, the linoleum slightly deforms. Therefore, large print runs in linocut are impossible. This drawback defined the limited series of linocuts "The Thirteenth Apostle." Each linocut is unique because linoleum, unlike solid wood, is soft and pliable, thus making each impression unique. In addition, handmade paper was used for each impression, and each sheet has an individual structure, color, composition, and thickness.
Auction.
Linocut number one initiates a series of eleven auctions where the author's right to choose the winner prevails provided the reserve price, which will be undisclosed, is met. In each of the eleven auctions, the reserve price will be different, and the author may choose the winner based on the precedence of reaching this price rather than the highest final bid. Each auction will last for 30 days.
Details of Linocuts.
- 1. Linocut "The Thirteenth Apostle," signed number one, features thin paper with beautiful speckles of onion skin, even, saturated printing.
- 2. Linocut "The Thirteenth Apostle," signed number two, distinguishes itself with thick paper with a greenish hue, pronounced relief on the backside, and speckles of fine green field grass.
- 3. Number three is printed on medium-thickness paper with even printing.
- 4. Number four is on thin paper with minimal printing gaps.
- 5. Number five is on the thinnest paper with even printing.
- 6. Number six has delicate blue paper with elegant paint gaps, a marbled pattern of rice husk on the backside.
- 7. Number seven is on clean pinkish paper with rare paint gaps and a few wrinkles on the backside.
- 8. The eighth number is on thin paper with a greenish hue, saturated with bronze onion skin with a shade of blue printing.
- 9. Number nine has a sheet resembling fragile antique papyrus with bronze-colored speckles covered with turquoise-black paint, creating the effect of stardust at the edge of the Milky Way.
- 10. Number ten is on thin paper with dark speckles covered with a delicate layer of paint where the linoleum stroke structure is barely visible.
- 11. Number eleven is on paper with a pinkish hue and paint with a shade of noble blue.
The last four numbers are not currently available for sale.
Ownership.
According to the author's concept, the work is of strictly personal nature from the moment it touches a new owner. The author is unaware of other aspects.
Sale of Linocuts.
The linocut can only be acquired through auction. The art agency FABER VISUM guarantees the transfer of the linocut to the future owner.
Investment Value.
While the value of the linocut is strictly sacral, it is not excluded that it will acquire a certain financial significance. This depends on several reasons.
