The painting is a reflection.

The artist's story about the painting "Still Life with Fruit" on his personal website, Gostev's Fine Art:

The desire to comprehend the experience of the founders of Cubism (Juan Gris, Braque, and partly Picasso) as a rejection of painterly freedom and excessive literaryism on the space of the canvas led to the combination of various objects gathered into one composition. This was an attempt to enter the world of simple things and to move away from the images ingrained in the mind by socialist realism, an attempt to return to the basic geometric forms. Thanks to this play with the form, the objects acquire a new emotional value, returning to the origins of ancient civilizations' art.

The idea of "replacing reality" developed by the masters assumes that the actual object is the painting itself, and the artist's task is to organize, construct the painting regardless of the depicted object, which can be distorted and reinterpreted to the point of unrecognizability. "The object should correspond to the painting, not the other way around," said Juan Gris.

The most challenging task is always to ensure that the painting, despite the abstraction of the objects gathered within it, does not lose its charm and brings clarity to the viewer's emotional state.
